It can be divided into three sub-categories, orthophthalic (ORTO), dicyclopentadiene (DCPD) and isophthalic (ISO): the former is commonly used for almost all fibreglass sectors; DCPD generally has slightly lower mechanical strengths than orthophthalic but wets the reinforcement fibres better and contains less styrene; on the other hand, isophthalic resin has superior mechanical, thermal and water and chemical resistance characteristics to orthophthalic and DCPD.
