Entre sus caracter\u00edsticas destacan su elevada resistencia mec\u00e1nica, baja densidad, capacidad de aislamiento t\u00e9rmico, resistencia a las variaciones de temperatura y al efecto de los productos qu\u00edmicos, y buenas propiedades ign\u00edfugas. Por otro lado, el material suele presentar una marcada anisotrop\u00eda, es decir, sus propiedades mec\u00e1nicas tienen una direcci\u00f3n privilegiada.
